Stop Being a Couch Potato

If you are anything like me you don’t like running and it doesn’t like you. But I changed that around at the beginning of this semester with an awesome app! We all love using our phones but did you know we can use it for fitness and not just sending out tweets of our lunch?

So what app helped me start to appreciate running? It’s called Couch to 5k. The goal of this app is to get you off the couch and running a 5k. “Yeah right me running a 5k, not happening.” That’s what I thought. But now I am 7 weeks into the 8 week program and I can see running a 5k in my future.

This app gives you three workouts a week for 9 weeks, which range from 28-40 minute workouts. In your first workout, you start with a 5 minute warming up and then alternate 1 minute of running and 1 1/2 minutes of walking, finish with a 5 minute cool down. In the final workout you warm up for 5 minutes, run for 30, cool down for 5.

I am at the point where I am running almost 9 miles a week!

Some advice I have:

  • ALWAYS stretch before and after your runs
  • Never skip a run
  • Make sure you drink a lot of water on the days you run

I highly recommend this app for anyone who thinks they can’t run or simply aren’t motivated and need some help. Get up and move!

Tip of the week:
Plan out your workout schedule Sunday nights for the week and stick to it!
