How to Style Overalls

I bought my overalls about a year ago, and struggled to figure out how to wear them! I didn’t want to look like my five-year-old self that used to run around the playground in pigtails and overalls, but I didn’t want to overdo a look either. After finding a few ways to wear them, I never want to take them off! The second they’re dirty, I want to throw them in the wash and have them ready to wear the next day. They are a fun addition to an otherwise t-shirt and jeans outfit, so why not wear them as much a possible! Here is how I have learned how to style my beloved overalls and get the most use out of them:

  1. Cozy up: As much as we want Spring to come, winter is still here, but that won’t stop me from wearing my favorite outfits. Throw a cozy sweater or sweatshirt under your overalls and you will be ready for an overcast day! If you want to dress up your look, you can wear a cute pair of booties with your outfit. When it is especially chilly out, or if you’re like me and like to layer, throw a jacket over your overalls. I have paired my jean jacket with my jean overalls in the past, and it is a funky look that gets lots of compliments! Overalls can be made ready for any type of weather, which just adds to the reasons why I love them.
  2. Simple and sweet: This is my absolute favorite way to style them. When I get a day where I feel like looking girly, I go for this look! I add my favorite striped shirt, or crop top, some spring sandals, and curl my hair! Then I am ready for a day at the farmer’s market, a fun lunch date or even a day full of classes! I am still comfy in my jeans, but the overalls are an accessory built in to your look!
  3. On the go: for those days filled with homework, errands and chores, I know a look that will have you feeling put together. This is also perfect for the days when you need a little jump-start. Instead of throwing on your normal yoga pants and sweatshirt, put on your favorite tee and pull your hair up into a messy bun or a baseball cap. You can then add your favorite pair of Vans or Converse and be ready to go! All you need to do is get a cup of coffee in your hands, and you are set for a busy day!

Overalls can seem like a scary and risky piece of clothing to wear out, especially when you are used to the normal jeans and shirt looks. But adding this piece to my wardrobe was a great decision, and they are one of my favorite purchases. I look forward to wearing them as much as possible!

Dressing for Disneyland: Do’s and Don’ts

Going to Disneyland is so exciting. Even as an adult I get excited about seeing my favorite characters, getting my favorite snacks and sitting in the yellow cup of the Teacups. But getting ready is so incredibly difficult. I want to look cute, but be comfortable. I also have to factor in the weather changes: the mornings are moderate, the afternoons are hot and the evenings are chilly. I frequent Disneyland often and have compiled a list of how to be ready for both pictures and a long day of walking!

1. For shoes: Do choose comfy, Don’t choose cute

I understand those new sandals you bought for spring are just waiting to get out of the closet, but leave them there for a little longer. Spending a whole day at Disney means walking, standing and more walking, so you want to be comfortable all day long. My most enjoyable days at Disneyland are when I wear either a pair of Nikes or Birkenstocks. They cover both the comfy and cute factors, and I can go from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. without envying the children being pushed in strollers.

2. Layer, layer, layer!

When I go I usually have three layers with me- a tank top, a shirt to put over and a jacket to throw on top of that. I want to stay until closing time, but I want to avoid having to buy an extra sweatshirt to stay warm! If you bring a backpack, all your layers should fit right inside. When I bring a flannel I can even wrap it around my waist for some extra accessorizing! Layers are also perfect to keep you warm on the rides that get you soaking wet- go on wearing just your first layer, and throw on the other two as soon as you get off!

3. Do accessorize, Don’t over do it!

Keeping it simple with the accessories is the perfect way to do Disney. Nothing gets in the way when strapping in to a ride, and you can be casual all day long. My favorite accessory that I wear almost every time is a baseball cap with Mickey on it, but if you have ears, rock them! A bracelet or a chain necklace are perfect to add a little sparkle to your outfit, but won’t get in the way! At Disneyland they even have places to get really cute necklaces and earrings, so if you come with nothing on, treat yourself!

4. Don’t wear shorts!

There is only one exception to this, and that is when there is a heat wave in summertime. Even then I ended up changing into pants, and was way more comfortable. In shorts, the rides are hot to sit on, and you then have to pack a pair of pants to change into the second the sun goes down. Yoga pants are also a way to go, you can layer, rock some Nikes and be comfy all day long. You can also eat all the churros and ice cream you want without feeling bloated! I love it!

Clearly breaking my own rules

A day at Disney is the perfect way to escape from school, work and adulthood- which is why I go so often. It’s a fun staycation if you want to make it a weekend getaway, and having a pass makes it easy and cheap to go! Dressing for the day can be stressful, but following these tips can make your day more magical! Plus you’ll look great for all your Instagram pictures and stories!

Christmas Wishlist 2017

Thanksgiving is over, which means that it is now time to bust out the Christmas music and the tree! With that festive spirit comes the scramble to get all the Christmas shopping done and finding everybody the perfect gift. Although it may be more rewarding to give rather than receive, we all have to admit that receiving is just as fun. Because of that I have put together a wishlist of my five fashion finds that I hope to find under the tree this year!

  1. Sweaters, sweaters and more sweaters: Whether they are for a late night study session, or a date night,

sweaters are exactly what I need to rock any winter outfit. Right now I am loving pullover sweaters. I can throw them over a t-shirt-dress or pair them with jeans and booties, and be both comfy and cozy!

  2. Hunter boots: Rainy season is bound to hit at some point in San Diego, and I want

my feet to stay dry! Last year, the Hunter ankle boot was released and I am loving the look! They are perfect for the rainy days, but not as bulky and large as a full boot!

  3. DIFF Eyewear: Sunny San Diego only experiences the rain and cold weather for a little bit, and then it is back to the 75 degree weather! That is why everybody needs to own the perfect pair of sunnies. DIFF Eyewear is currently what I am obsessed with because they give back to different charities based on the line of glasses you pick from. The Lauren

Akins line is my personal favorite, because they are super trendy, and who doesn’t love Thomas Rhett and Lauren Akins?

  4. Leggings/Yoga Pants: Whether you’ll be wearing them to the gym to kick off your New Year’s resolution, or to lounge around the house watching Christmas movies, yoga pants can be used for anything. My favorite place to get them is from Zella, a Nordstrom brand, because they are very comfy and don’t break the bank.
  5. Socks for everybody: Socks are known to be the worst gift ever, but not for this girl! They are the perfect stocking stuffer, and come in all kinds. There’s fuzzy socks to pair with your leggings for cozy nights in, or fun printed socks to pair with booties and Vans. You can even get knee high socks to rock with a pair of boots. Not only do socks cover an everyday need, but you can get fancy and creative with the types you buy.

Christmas is a time to give, but also a time to treat yourself. Whether you add these to the list of things you’ll be buying others, or the list of items you find under the tree, I hope you have a wonderful holiday season! Happy shopping!

What’s Trending: Love the Loafers

The current trend that I just couldn’t get on board with (at first) is loafers. But, it didn’t take long for me to fall in love with them. They made their way back into the fashion world during Fashion Week, and they are all the rage. Although they tend to be pricey shoes, brands such as BP of Nordstrom have come out with styles that are not so expensive and won’t break the bank. There are two things that make these shoes so popular:

  • They are so versatile. Whether you are running to class, or heading in for an internship, you can put together such a trendy and cute look. They can look laid back or dress an outfit up.
  • There are many styles. If you want to go for a more feminine look, there’s embellished styles. They have bows, sparkles, embroidery and even unique colors. You can choose between slip on loafers, or a full on shoe. You can choose to have a flat or even a heel. Even though it is a popular look, everybody can have their own spin and take, through the type of shoe they pick.

Because of all the options available with this this shoe, it can be difficult to put together a statement look. Because of that, I have chosen a few loafer-centered looks that I personally like.

Look 1: By wearing loafers that are colorful, you can add a pop of color to a plain outfit. By pairing them with jeans and a cute, but simple top you can focus on the trendy and oh-so-cute shoes you have on.

Look 2: If you are looking for incredibly comfy and laid back, I would go for a pair of slip on loafers. Pair them with a sweater and a messy bun, and you are ready to go! Just grab a coffee and you are prepped for a day at the farmers market or even a day of shopping.

Look 3: If you are getting ready for an interview or are heading to the office you can pair these shoes with almost anything in your closet. I suggest pairing them with either nice jeans or slacks, and a blouse. To achieve the ultimate power woman ensemble, add a tailored blazer over the top and you are ready to kill it at the office!

A shoe that I thought would was for just my grandparents has once again made a comeback and I am loving it! As I get ready to head into the business world, but am not quite ready to give up my laidback look, these are just the shoes for me!
