There is one thing everyone can appreciate, a great butt. Being “fit n’ thick” is this year’s biggest trend. Behind the trend is the behind and the key to a great behind is squatting. A squat is a simple workout that tones your legs, lifts your butt, strengthens your core and increases flexibility. Though the squat is famous for sculpting a Kardashian sized booty it can also increase core muscle activity even better than traditional ab exercises.

How to do a Squat:

  1. Start with feet shoulder width apart
  2. Keep abs tight
  3. Lower body (like siting in chair)
  4. Don’t let knees go over toes
  5. Keep chest up
  6. Stop when legs are parallel to floor
  7. Keep weight on heels
  8. Hold for a few seconds, then push yourself back up

Those are the steps for a basic squat. It is important to have a good form when squatting to prevent injuries.

There are a few other types of squats that engage other muscles:

  • One-legged squat requires balance and strength
  • Barbell squats kicks up the traditional squat and builds a strong lower back
  • Kettle bell swing squats adds arms and shoulders for more of an allover workout
  • Jump squats add the element of cardio to your workout

The squat is defiantly my favorite exercise but not the most important part of my workout that would be stretching. Stretching is important before a workout to loosen up your muscles and warm you up. A quick 5 minute warm up run is also good before a workout. I also stretch after a workout to prevent being extremely sore the next day so I can hit the gym again.

Get up and get squatting! Remember we all have the same amount of hours in a day as Beyoncé and there is no reason we can’t have her butt.
