Reigning from Los Angeles, Julie has been at the forefront of the modern shoegaze revolution and rightfully so. With the recent release of their long awaited debut album,”My Anti-Aircraft Friend” the band has embarked on a world tour with the first stop being in San Diego at the observatory. Philadelphia shoegaze staples Her New Knife and They Are Gutting a Body of Water joined Julie as openers that culminated in a night of earth shattering ambience.
The nu-gaze trio opened their set with the ever so powerful tune,”Catalogue” and commanded the attention of the audience from the very beginning. The feeling in the crowd was restless, looking for the next burst of energy to break into a frenzied mosh. Old songs like “pg.4 a picture of three hedges” transitioned seamlessly into songs off the new album like “very little effort” and “knob”.
Being able to see these explosive and dynamic songs live is truly second to none. The way Julie can flow from song to song and from quiet to a wall of sound shows their dedication to their craft. By blending old school shoegaze and noise rock influences with putting their own original spin on the music along with extremely raw and intimate lyrics, Julie deserves all the success they’ve gotten so far and much more. It is going to be very exciting to see what their career has in store.
