Come one, come all to a mystical, mercurial world presented to you by Electronic-Pop duo Magdalena Bay, aka the lovechild of Mica Tenenbaum and Matthew Lewin. On September 22, 2025, The Observatory North Park welcomed their presence as they put on a show nothing short of theatrical.
With a stage design that leaves your eyes exploring for days through its non-stop movement and artistry, Magdalena Bay deserves their flowers for the curation alone. The show follows a storyline based on their 2024 album, “Imaginal Disk.” The story of “Imaginal Disk” is told from the perspective of the protagonist, True, who exists in a universe where consciousness is implanted by aliens through imaginal disks. When True’s disk fails, she discovers that she is more than her implanted consciousness, accepting her imperfections and what it means to be her true self.

The show opened with the first four tracks from their recent critically acclaimed album, and as I was up there taking pictures, I felt like I had almost transcended. I would take second breaks in between taking pictures to cheer and dance, just to let them know I was a dedicated fan too!
In between the “Imaginal Disk” tracks, the duo played songs from previous albums, such as “Secrets (Your Fire)” and “Top Dog.” I applauded their formatting when it came to storytelling through a visual concept, as it carried through from beginning to end.

A standout performance for me was during “Vampire in the Corner.” Tenebaum embodied this character fully, and you were able to feel the emotions of rage and sadness that happen during the story through her portrayal.
The show itself felt like watching a public access kids’ show from the ’90s that would then become lost media, but in the best way possible. Tenenbaum never let her energy die out as she was the host, and the crowd were the viewers, mesmerized.
