On November 16th, 2024, Dayglow performed at SOMA in San Diego to a large crowd of fans. Along with Dayglow, the Australian band Teenage Dads opened the concert, setting the stage for the night with their fun, indie-rock sound. The concert was part of their tour for their new self-titled album, “Dayglow,” which came out this past September.

I had a great time at the concert. Teenage Dads put on a great performance as the openers. They covered “Video Killed the Radio Star” which had the whole audience singing along. The band members were all engaging with the crowd and seemed very energetic which I appreciated. The main singer also expressed their appreciation multiple times for being able to perform to such a large crowd and having people listen to their music which I thought was kind and showed their gratitude. The band members were also at the merch table after their set and after the concert, signing merch and conversing with fans. I had never listened to their music before but after seeing them live, I’ve already added them to all my playlists.

Sloan Struble, the frontman for Dayglow, put on such a high-energy and fun concert, along with the other band members. I’ve never had the chance to see them live before and I’m so incredibly grateful that I finally was able to. The backdrop to the stage was the first thing I noticed; there were big blocks spelling the band’s name along with street lights lined across the stage. I thought it was very unique and added a fun embellishment to the show. The lighting also stood out to me because of the various colors that would shine from song to song. I always appreciate when artists include a fun light display within their concerts because as an audience member, it’s entertaining to watch. The setlist included a mix of songs from all their albums but mostly from “Fuzzybrain” and “Dayglow”. I loved hearing songs from their new album because I didn’t get the chance to listen to it too heavily before and I’m happy to say that it all sounded incredible. At one point, someone threw a shirt onto the stage for Sloan that said “San Dieglow” which Sloan put on towards the end of the performance. I have since then realized that Sloan does this at every show and wears a shirt with a funny mashup of a city’s name and the word glow, an example being “Oakglowhoma”. I think that’s such a fun way to shout out the city their in. The band also did a fake-out when they left the stage after performing “Can I Call You Tonight” which then caused many of the audience members to leave. The band eventually came back out to perform three more songs to all the fans that stayed. I was also very happy to hear my favorite songs from “Fuzzybrain” like “Hot Rod” and “False Direction” which was very nostalgic for me because I had them on constant replay during the pandemic in 2020. Overall, I had a great time at the concert and will definitely try and see Dayglow the next time they’re in town!
