I had only seen Thee Sacred Souls once before when they played a short set at Coachella. I was left in tears after the lyrics and melodies hit too close to home, and I realized then for the first time I was in love.

After that performance, Thee Sacred Souls took on a new meaning for me. They became a symbol of love and my own relationship. I would cry, smile, sleep, and work to their music — it became a staple in my everyday rotation. When I heard they were coming to San Diego on Oct. 3, I knew I had to experience their music live again, this time with my partner. It felt like a full-circle moment, and getting tickets to their show meant so much to me.

We arrived at the perfect time, and were even able to purchase a poster along with a drink before they started the show. From the very first note, the band delivered sound that carried warmth and sincerity through the entirety of Cal Coast Credit Union Amphitheater. I was immediately immersed in their set and entranced by the energy that the lead singer, Josh Lane, radiated. Everybody else in the crowd seemed to be in the same trance as me. We were all swaying, dancing, and singing together as a collective. The community that they created through their music felt extremely safe and comfortable.

They alternated perfectly between slower, more emotional songs to groovier songs, maintaining the theme of romance throughout. Three background singers stood beside Lane as they echoed vocals back to him. I was shocked at how in sync and blended their voices sounded together. Their performance sounded exactly like the recorded track, only with more life intertwined into the live rendition.

Additionally, sharing this experience with my partner was incredibly special. It seemed as though we were having a celebration of love, connection, and soul with the whole arena. I felt fulfilled by their performance while reminded of why they’re so important to me and to my partner.

Go see Thee Sacred Souls live — you won’t just hear their music, you’ll feel it.
