Oona had just left her World Religions class – she’s actually a Foods and Nutrition major here at SDSU. Growing up in the middle of San Francisco, Oona has seen many eccentric characters and styles over the years. This culture has influenced her mental freedom to just wear stuff that makes her feel good. We sat down at a sunny bench in the courtyard next to the Little Theatre to talk about her personal style.

What are some people or profiles that give your inspiration for fashion?

I take a lot of inspiration from my friends, like my roommates. People in San Francisco also. They feel very free to express themselves; they don’t hold back, so there’s a lot of crazy. There are a lot of different styles that I like to pull from.

Do you have any favorite places that you like to shop?

I really enjoy thrift shopping because when I buy something from a thrift shop I feel really excited about it… It’s like a treasure hunt. If I find something good, it’s a really good feeling: I got it for cheap, not a lot of other people are gonna have it, and I found it in the midst of all this other stuff. But I also shop at Urban Outfitters.

Favorite thrift store in San Diego?

Thrift Trader in North Park [2947 El Cajon Blvd, 92104]. In SF I love the Goodwill on Haight (it’s the best Goodwill in San Francisco– in my opinion). So if you’re ever in SF, don’t forget to check it out!

Favorite Brand?

Urban Outfitters has a lot of cool stuff.

What’s the biggest splurge you have made?

I buy a lot of stuff on sale– It’s hard for me to spend money on things. Oh, I bought a pair of $90 jeans from American Apparel. But it is my FAVORITE THING ON EARTH and I wear them like every day and get so many compliments… so I don’t feel bad about it.

What’s your staple piece of clothing?

The American Apparel jeans. They just fit so great. I have never been able to find jeans in that style that actually fit me and look good, so I had to get them. It’s just really important to be comfortable while I look cute.

If you’re buying something for later or… ‘when I feel good’ or ‘if I loose weight,’ then you shouldn’t get it because it’s not worth it.

If you could swap wardrobes with anyone in the world, who would it be?

Rihanna– she always looks really good, and she’s my wife… According to my astrological symbol.

Anything you want to share with everyone?

I’ve been re-reading the Harry Potter series lately. Oh… and basically just don’t give a [beep]  about what people think. Just wear it. If you like something and it makes you feel good, don’t worry about what other people are thinking. Like, I just bought a pair of bright yellow jeans. I don’t really mind that it’s November and no one else is wearing yellow jeans. I just wanted to wear them. Also, if you’re buying something for later or… ‘when I feel good’ or ‘if I loose weight,’ then you shouldn’t get it because it’s not worth it.

Favorite band?

Tame Impala.
